Processional on “Come, Holy Ghost, Our Hearts Inspire” - 11 Bells
This layered processional is a wonderful way to begin your Pentecost service (or any service focused on the Holy Spirit). The piece is based on a series of repeated musical patterns. Each person is assigned two bells and one 2-measure pattern to play and repeat, as needed. Each part includes text pulled from the hymn, “Come, Holy Ghost Our Hearts Inspire” to aid with rhythm and memory.
"O Spirit of the Living God" - 21 Bells
A simple setting of this traditional hymn (FOREST GREEN) featuring new harmonizations and accompaniment patterns written for solo handbells—perfect for a prelude, anthem, or offertory.
"Holy Spirit, Truth Divine" (Hymn Descant) - 18 Bells
A lyrical descant to accompany this prayerful hymn text. Use this descant on one or two verses of the hymn, to add to the congregational singing experience. The descant matches the traditional harmony found in most hymnals.
"O Breath of Life" (Underscore) - 17 Bells
Featuring the text of the prayerful hymn by the same name (text by Bessie Porter Head, 1920, public domain), this chordal underscore is intended to accompany the reading of this text in worship as a way of bringing the words to life in a new way.
The score includes a copy of the text, so players can follow along. Begin with the singing bells and keep them going through the end of the reading. Chord patterns should be played in the pause that follows the final word of the given phrase, as indicated in the sample recording. Chords should be played softly, so as not to take away from the text.
